Event Description:

On behalf of the XVIII Airborne Corps & Fort Liberty Commanding General, Lieutenant General Christopher T. Donahue, please join an event on Resilient and Clean Energy for the Department of Defense on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am ET at Big Muddy Lake, Fort Liberty.

This special event will announce a transformative investment that is aligned with President Biden’s Federal Sustainability Plan goal to power the Federal Government with 100% clean electricity by 2030. In April 2024, DoD announced its participation in Duke Energy’s Green Source Advantage programs in North and South Carolina to provide Carbon Free Electricity (CFE) to U.S. Army Fort Liberty, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. As part of this announcement, the DoD will purchase an estimated 135 megawatts of emissions-free solar energy as part of its CFE goal to help build a resilient, clean, and domestically based electricity supply chain by 2030.

Featured speakers include:
  1. The Honorable Brendan Owens, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations and Environment
  2. Mr. Andrew Mayock, Federal Chief Sustainability Officer, The White House Council on Environmental Quality
  3. Mr. Paul Farnan, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment

The event will begin at 10:30 am with a tour of a 1.1 megawatt floating solar array on Big Muddy Lake developed in partnership with Duke Energy. Although separate from the new CFE purchase, the floating solar array provides Fort Liberty access to on-site resilient CFE generation and storage and is an example of the partnership with Duke Energy to deliver energy resilience for the Army. At 11 am, the speaking program will commence with remarks from senior representatives from DoD, the Executive Office of the President, and Duke Energy.

Please RSVP by 5:00 pm ET on Friday, June 14, 2024, via the link below. We hope you will join this important and timely gathering to highlight the federal government’s commitment to strengthen the resilience of the civilian electric grid and the benefits it delivers to our defense communities.
